Plastic refractory castable is a type of refractory monolithic material with strong plasticity. It is made by mixing refractory aggregates, plastic clay, and thickening agents. Due to its convenient operation and excellent characteristics, it is widely used in the lining, repair, and refractory casting of high-temperature kilns, such as industrial kilns and thermal equipment.

Components of Plastic Refractories Castable
The components of plastic refractory castable are mainly 70-80% refractory aggregates, 10-25% plastic clay, and binders. It is a kind of castable refractory material.
- Refractory aggregates refer to powdered and granular refractory materials, including high alumina, aluminate, magnesia, zirconia, and so on. These materials enhance the physical and chemical properties of the castable.
- Plastic clay improves the plasticity and strength of the castable.
- Binders include glass, phosphates, sulfates, and so on. These thickeners enhance the workability of the castable, for example, by reducing setting time and increasing strength.
Key Features of Plastic Refractory Castable
- Strong plasticity: The plasticity index is between 12-35%. So, its plasticity is strong.
- Low expansion rate: Permanent linear change is between -1.5-0% (T/℃*12h). It has a stable structure under the high temperature.
- High strength: Refractory materials and plastic clay enhance the strength of the castable.
- Strong thermal shock resistance: This castable can maintain its integrity under rapid temperature changes.
- Durable: It has high abrasion resistance and a long service life.
- Strong corrosion resistance: It can withstand a certain degree of acid and alkali corrosion.
Applications of Plastic Refractory Castable
Castable plastic has a wide range of applications. It is used for lining, patching, nozzles, side columns, burner blocks, and so on. Its applications are mainly in the following high-temperature industries:
- Metal industry: ladles, smelting furnaces (for smelting iron, carbon steel, aluminum, copper), sintering furnaces, heating furnaces, annealing furnaces, homogenizing furnaces, electric furnaces, and so on.
- Non-ferrous metal industry: non-ferrous metal smelting furnaces, including zinc, and others.
- Power industry: boilers, waste incinerators, and so on.
- Petrochemical industry: coking furnaces, reactors, and others.
