A Mongolian customer who recently purchased high-alumina bricks, refractory castables, and refractory aggregates from Kerui Refractory is now ready for installation. Our technical team is there to provide support. See this case study in action.
Basic Information of Silicon Manganese Furnace Construction
A silicon-manganese furnace is a specialized smelting equipment primarily used for producing silicon-manganese alloy. Silicon-manganese alloy is a crucial alloy material widely used in steelmaking.
Our Mongolian customer has purchased high-alumina bricks, castable refractories, phosphate-bonded alumina cement, and high-alumina aggregates for lining their silicon-manganese furnace.
What Are The Advantages Of Using High-Alumina Bricks?
- High Temperature Resistance: Refractory materials must withstand the high-temperature environment inside the furnace and have a high melting point.
- Slag Resistance: Refractory materials should resist erosion from furnace slag to prevent premature damage to the lining.
- Thermal Shock Stability: The temperature variations in the silicon-manganese furnace are significant, so refractory materials should possess good thermal shock stability to prevent cracking.
- Mechanical Strength: Refractory materials should have sufficient mechanical strength to withstand the impact and pressure of materials inside the furnace.
- Thermal Conductivity: Select appropriate thermal conductivity based on the temperature requirements of different areas.
Structure of the Silicon-Manganese Furnace and Common Refractory Materials
- Furnace Shell: Furance shell provides the main structural support of the furnace, bearing the high temperatures and pressure inside. Commonly made of steel plates and refractory castables.
- Furnace Lining: Furnace lining is located on the inner wall of the furnace shell. It serves to insulate, resist wear, and protect the shell. This area commonly uses high-alumina bricks, carbon bricks, magnesia-carbon bricks, magnesia-carbon castables, high-alumina castables, etc.
- Electrodes: Electrodes generate high temperatures through electric arcs to melt the materials inside the furnace. Graphite electrodes are commonly used in this area.
- Cooling System: Cooling system is used to cool the furnace body and electrodes to prevent overheating of the equipment. This area commonly employs materials such as copper pipes and cast iron.
Construction Feedback on the Silicon-Manganese Furnace
- The quality of the refractory material installation is excellent and meets design requirements.
- The overall flatness of the furnace lining is good, with tight seams.
- The furnace drying and trial operation were smooth, with all indicators normal.
- The customer expressed satisfaction with the construction quality.
